The Problem Every Surfer Knows

Every session leaves something behind. Salt, zinc and sunscreen bond to the skin at a molecular level. Most surfers wipe their face with a towel after a session. The residue does not come off. It gets pushed back into the pores, clogging them, contributing to breakouts and leaving skin dull and congested.

Standard cleansers make it worse. Harsh surfactants like SLS and SLES strip the skin's natural oils without properly removing what has bonded. Many mainstream face scrubs and body scrubs sold in Australia still contain synthetic plastic particles linked to endocrine disruption and hormonal dysfunction.

Why Standard Products Fail Surf Skin

Zinc oxide and waterproof sunscreen are oil-based compounds. They are specifically designed to be water-resistant and to bond to the skin. That is what makes them effective in the water. But it also means water alone cannot break them down, and most soap-based cleansers do not have the chemistry to dissolve them either.

After surf skincare needs to do two things standard products cannot: dissolve oil-based buildup and restore the moisture that daily exposure to UV radiation, salt water and wind strips away.

One without the other is not enough.

The Exfoliate + Restore System

Every Surfocco formula is built around a dual-action Exfoliate + Restore system. It works in two steps.

First, plant oils dissolve. Coconut oil bonds with the oily base of zinc, sunscreen and environmental pollutants, breaking that bond at a molecular level and allowing everything to be lifted and rinsed away. Oil is the only thing that properly dissolves oil. That is basic chemistry.

Second, naturally derived botanical and mineral exfoliants lift and remove. Rice powder, Balinese sea salt, Kintamani Arabica coffee, cocoa, kencur and kaolin clay physically sweep the loosened buildup from the skin surface, clearing pores and refining texture without micro-tears or synthetic residue.

Then moisture is restored. Jojoba oil, aloe, beeswax, vitamin E and glycerin replenish what the elements take out, seal the skin's moisture barrier and protect against further damage.

The result is skin that is genuinely clean, not just rinsed. Cleaner, clearer, smoother and reset after every session.

Coconut Oil The core of the Exfoliate + Restore system. Coconut oil dissolves oil-based buildup on contact. Zinc oxide, waterproof sunscreen and environmental pollutants all bond to the skin in the same way. Coconut oil breaks that bond. It also nourishes and softens the skin during exfoliation, preventing the dry, stripped feeling that standard cleansers cause.

Jojoba Oil Jojoba is structurally almost identical to the skin's own sebum. Rather than stripping natural oils like a surfactant does, jojoba reinforces the moisture barrier and helps the skin hold its own hydration. After every session, it replenishes what sun, wind and salt water take out. Skin finishes balanced and nourished, not tight or dry.

Balinese Sea Salt Harvested by hand from the coastal waters of Tejakula on the east coast of Bali using traditional methods. Balinese sea salt is a naturally derived mineral exfoliant that physically lifts and removes buildup from the skin surface. It deep cleans pores, polishes texture and leaves skin feeling genuinely clean and refreshed. Used in the Surfocco body scrubs as the primary exfoliant.

Kintamani Arabica Coffee Grown in the volcanic mountains of Kintamani in the highlands of Bali. Finely milled Arabica coffee powder is a naturally derived exfoliant that invigorates the skin surface, stimulates circulation and lifts buildup from the pores. It gives the Coffee & Rice Face Scrub its distinctive scent and texture.

Kencur Kaempferia galanga, known as kencur, is a traditional Balinese botanical root used in skincare formulations for generations. It refreshes and clarifies the skin surface, helping to lift residue and leave skin feeling balanced. Combined with ginger and turmeric in the Kencur & Rice Face Scrub, it forms one of Surfocco's traditional Balinese formulas.

Rice Powder Oryza sativa rice powder is one of the gentlest naturally derived exfoliants available. Finely milled, it polishes and refines the skin surface without causing micro-tears or aggression. It lifts buildup, smooths texture and contributes to the cleaner, clearer and more even skin that surfers notice after regular use. Used across all four Surfocco face scrubs.

Aloe Barbadensis Aloe calms and soothes the skin during exfoliation, reducing any sensitivity caused by exposure to UV radiation, salt and wind. It also draws water into the skin, supporting hydration from within. Aloe is in every Surfocco face scrub, working alongside the plant oils and botanicals to ensure exfoliation never leaves skin feeling raw or irritated.

Kaolin Clay A naturally occurring mineral clay that draws out deeper impurities from the pores and absorbs excess oil. Kaolin clay supports a deeper cleanse without stripping the skin's natural barrier, making it particularly effective for surfers dealing with daily zinc, sunscreen and environmental pollutant buildup. Used in all Surfocco body scrubs alongside Balinese sea salt.

Beeswax Cera alba beeswax seals moisture into the skin after exfoliation, protecting the skin surface and locking in the hydration restored by jojoba and aloe. It gives the Surfocco face scrubs a smooth, non-stripping finish and helps maintain the skin's moisture barrier between sessions. Face scrubs only.

Vitamin E Tocopheryl acetate vitamin E protects the skin against free radical damage from UV exposure and environmental stress. For surfers who spend significant time exposed to the elements, vitamin E provides an additional layer of protection after every cleanse. Face scrubs only.

Glycerin Plant-based glycerin draws moisture into the skin and helps the skin hold hydration post-scrub. Used in the Surfocco body scrubs alongside coconut oil, it works as a humectant to restore and lock in moisture after the salt exfoliation, leaving skin feeling clean, polished and refreshed rather than dry. Body scrubs only.
